Anna Mary
Frye
Mar 4, 1937 — Dec 29, 2025
Monongahela
Anna Mary "Dee Dee" Frye, 88, entered into rest on Monday, December 29, 2025 at The Residence At Hilltop, Carroll Township, Washington County, PA where she had been residing since February 2019.
Dee Dee was born in 1937, and lived in Monongahela, PA, nearly all of her life. As a child, she attended Valley Inn School in Carroll Township. Dee Dee graduated from Monongahela High School, class of 1955. She attended Chatham College, Pittsburgh, PA, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959.
Dee Dee developed an interest in foreign language and enrolled in graduate school at Case Western Reserve University where she earned a Master's Degree in Spanish. She also studied Spanish in 1958, at the University of Valencia in Valencia, Spain. In the summer of 1963, she studied Spanish at the InterAmerican University, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. Dee Dee taught Spanish in the Lakewood School system near Cleveland, Ohio from 1960 to 1966, after which she returned to Monongahela.
Dee Dee was socially active in the Mon Valley community. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monongahela, she sang in the choir, served as secretary of the Kings Daughters and was a member of the Adelphian Sunday School Class. From 1980 to 2003, Dee Dee served as president of the Mother's Club of Monongahela which mentors young women. She served as president of the local chapter of AARP for two years and was a member of the Gingerhill Club.
Dee Dee will be long remembered for her kind, caring, and quiet nature, and her keen focus on maintaining good health by good diet and regular moderate exercise. She was gifted with an extraordinary memory which enabled her to accurately recall intricate details of people's names and events long past. She was a prolific correspondent and used her natural talents (without a computer or smartphone!) to stay current with a large circle of family and friends. She would refer to her written correspondence as "little pen visits".
Dee Dee is survived her sister, Faye Frye, and by several cousins.
Preceding Dee Dee in death were her father, Laurence V. Frye in 1974; mother, Mary Urli Frye in 1978; brother, Joseph U. Frye in 2012; and sister-in-law, Frances Caruso Frye in 2019.
Special thanks to all the nurses, aids, and other staff of The Residence At Hilltop and of VITAS
Healthcare Hospice for their tireless care given to Dee Dee and also to her family and friends who faithfully sent greeting cards and gifts, visited, and otherwise showed their love to her.
Family and friends will be received at the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, the hour of service, officiated by Pastor Oscar Chambers. Private interment will immediately follow at the Monongahela Cemetery.
