Dale Michael Varega, 56, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in his home. He was born January 2, 1961 in Charleroi, the son of Walter Paul Varega of Monessen and the late Dolores Shirley Varega.
Dale was a graduate of Monessen High School, class of 1978. After graduation, he attended Penn State University in New Kensington where he earned an associate degree and his American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certifications. He did his clinical at Mercy Hospital and served his internship at St. Margaret's Hospital, both in Pittsburgh. He was hired as an x-ray technician at the Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he has been employed for thirty one years, the past three as senior radiology technologist. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Edward J. Protin Memorial Award, one of the hospital's most prestigious honors.  He was very active in orientating and instructing students from local high schools and trade schools about careers in health care. Dale had such a positive attitude with both his co-workers and his patients. His faith and moral support got everyone through even the roughest of days.  Dale was an active member of the Crossroads Ministries/Library Baptist Church in Finleyville. A true servant, he was a deacon, visited the sick, was a youth leader and helped coach soccer.  Dale loved painting, especially sports figures and landscapes and also enjoyed photography. He enjoyed trips to Gettysburg and learning history about the Civil War. Dale was very family oriented and had a personality that drew people to him. He loved helping people, kept his faith and truly believed that God has a purpose for every one of us.
In addition to his father, Dale is survived by his wife, Lynne Calisti Varega  with whom he celebrated twenty one years of marriage on November 25, 2016; son, Caleb Varega at home; sister, Claudia White and husband Daniel of Brownsville; brother-in-law, Lee Calisti and wife Amy and their son, Noah of Greensburg.
