Obituary

The world lost a special woman when Florence Laverne Reed, age 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2020.
She was born to the late David and Iva Davidson on November 21, 1923, in Canonsburg. After graduating from Canonsburg High School, she met G.Paul Reed, with whom she enjoyed 54 years of marriage before his passing in 1999.

Florence possessed a true servant's heart. Florence and Paul hosted a weekly prayer meeting in their home, where over the years thousands were encouraged in their Christian faith. She enjoyed working for many years at Living Word Book Store in Charleroi and impacted the lives of all within her family and church. She considered family her most prized possession and stated her greatest joy, aside from her relationship with Jesus Christ, was knowing her family members truly loved each other and made family unity a priority. Florence was a member of CityReach Church in Charleroi, pastored by Rev. Gregg Anders.

She raised her children with love and devotion in Ghennes Heights, Monongahela, and later her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren filled the rooms of that same family home, bringing her much delight.

She leaves six surviving children: Patricia Fonner and husband Raymond of Washington; Sharon Heiney of Thomasville, NC; Nancy Leksell and husband Rev. Richard of Columbus, NJ; Dennis Reed and wife Joan of Scenery Hill; Kim Lisi and husband Rev. David of Holland Patent, NY; Beth Hough and husband Rev. Michael of Fayette City; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Florence also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Thelma Reed, numerous nieces and nephews, and two special friends she considered spiritual daughters; Patricia Mcadoo and Karen Welker.

In addition to her parents and husband, Florence was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Rev. Donald Anders; son-in-law Edward Heiney; great-granddaughter Samantha Anders; and a brother, David Davidson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. R.G. Kirshnan, Debbie Marsich of Cambridge Hillside, the staff at The Residence at Hilltop and ViaQuest Hospice, as well as Rev. Tom Harding who faithfully encouraged her in the Lord, Ghennes Heights neighbors Den & Pam Wagner and Sean & Raquel Virgili; and many special friends and neighbors, too many to list.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you reach out with an act of kindness to an elderly person, a shut-in or to someone who needs a reminder they have not been forgotten.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 12-2 and 4-6 PM at the Christian Center Church, 130 Charity Lane, Belle Vernon, where services will be held at 6:00 PM with the Rev. Thomas Harding officiating. Florence will be laid to rest next to her loving husband at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
In order to be compliant with our state guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, masks MUST be worn and social distancing maintained.
