John James "Jim" Irey was born September 18, 1932 in Monongahela, to Frank L. Irey and Margaret McMahon. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Grace Crompton, in 1952 and they were married for over 71years. Six months after their marriage, Jim was drafted into the US Army and sent to Korea. They signed the cease fire the day he finished basic training. In Korea, Jim met Hal M. Wilcox from Clearfield, UT who taught him about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim joined the church before coming home and was active for the rest of his life. He was Branch President of the Monongahela Branch of the LDS Church for over 13 years and built the building they still meet in today.

Jim worked in construction all his life and owned and operated Frank Irey Jr, Inc with his brother, Frank. He enjoyed tennis, softball and Barbershop singing.

Jim was blessed to have one son, Jim Jr. (Jennifer Andrews); and five daughters, Colleen Tolliver (Mike), Wendy Wilding (Russell), Jane Irey, Melinda Mueller (Clint), and Amy Brown (Aaron). He has 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Faye Irey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Free) McMahon; brother, Frank Irey; and great grandson, Lewis Wilding.

Jim died at home in Sahuarita, AZ at the age of 91, where he and Grace live with their daughter, Jane, and grandson, Wesley, on May 13, 2024.

Friends will be received on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 5-8 pm in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 10-11 am in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, 136 Sacred Heart Road, Monongahela, where services will begin at 11:00 am with Bishop Roy Hoffman officiating.  Graveside services will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
