Lanny Jay Staggers, 74, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Charleroi, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 2, 2021 in the Jefferson Hospital. He was born March 30, 1947 in Waynesburg, the son of Russell and Jeanette Gillogly Staggers.
Lanny was a graduate of Waynesburg High School, class of 1966 and was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the US Air Force. He was a retired Port Engineer employed by Consol Energy in Charleroi. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Charleroi and the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen Club. Lanny and his wife Carol enjoyed bowling, traveling to many crafts shows selling their items and going to the River House Cafe every Friday evening. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Staggers with whom he celebrated thirty eight years of marriage on November 7, 2020; three daughters and a son, Bethann Sari and husband Fred of Charleroi, Kena Hartzell and husband David of Scenery Hill, Brett Staggers and Stacey Marshall; grandchildren, Jessica Seraly and husband Erin, Kaitlin and Taylor Sari, Sara and Brandon Hartzell; great grandchildren, Alexia, Sophia, Rylee, Jaxon, Rian and Mila; sister, Janet Gaffney of Waynesburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Staggers.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 2-4 PM in the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Paul Mitchell officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
