Margaret "Nana" Sosanko, 87, of Monongahela, died Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Grandview Estates, Elizabeth. She was born April 2, 1931 in Dunkirk, the daughter of John and Anna Sabbach Wassel.
Margaret was a member of the former St. Macrina Byzantine Catholic Church in Monongahela and was currently a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi. Margaret was a person who loved the simple things in life, such as taking a ride into town. Her family was her life. She was a very thoughtful, caring and generous woman who did a lot for everyone she knew, even at times for people she did not know. Nana and Pap were very devoted grandparents that never missed any event that their granddaughters were involved in. She and her husband John had never flown before, but insisted on flying to the state of California to watch the girls in a band competition. Margaret was very thankful for her home health aides, especially Pat, Briana, Felicia, Shelley and Chrissy, for all of the love and care they offered.
She is survived by four granddaughters, Melissa and wife Amy Sosanko of Pittsburgh, Cary and husband Matthew Morris of South Park, Amanda and husband Kelton Crankshaw of Erie, Jessica and husband Max Neffgen of Germany; two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Ashlyn Morris; sister, Julie Auth of Monongahela.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty six years, who passed away a little over three weeks ago on August 14, 2018, John "Bootz" Sosanko; son, Gary John Sosanko who died September 26, 2015; sister, Anna Mae Tegi; and a brother, John Wassel, Jr. who died in infancy.
Friends will be received on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Panachida services will be held at 9:15 am on Monday, September 10, 2018 in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen Wahal as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
