Martha R. Yohe, 91, known by friends as "Mary Ann", died peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, PA with family members at her side.
She was born on December 20, 1925, in Washington, the daughter of Dorsey Strosnider, a streetcar motorman in Washington and Ethel (Jones) Strosnider. She married Marcus G. Yohe of Ginger Hill, a roofing and steeple contractor, who was later ordained a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He served several churches in western Pennsylvania, to include Edward's Chapel Methodist Church and Webster Methodist Church. She was married for 55 years until her husband passed away in May of 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Thomas Matthew Yohe of Monongahela and three sisters; Virginia Ruetschi, Doris Grusofski, and Betty Murphy, all of Washington. She is survived by her children; Karen Lusk (Rev. William Lusk) of Eighty Four, Larry Yohe of Washington, Mark Yohe (Sandy) of Fredericktown, Tom Yohe (Donna) of Finleyville, Cindy Taylor (companion Arnold Brock) of Sewickley, and David Yohe (Jennifer) of Ginger Hill. She had 11 grand children and 17 great grand children.
As a member of the Free Methodist Church in Monongahela, she was active in various women's ministries. While her husband was pastor at Edward's Chapel United Methodist church, she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was active in youth ministries. As a pastor's wife and later a member at the Free Methodist church, the church was always an important part of her life. She dedicated her life to her husband, the raising of her children, and most of all to her Lord. She loved gospel music and sang beautifully. She also enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She is remembered by her children as one who set the example of Christian living and read her Bible daily. Her children never heard a unkind word from her mouth or gossip from her lips. She treated all with love and kindness and everyone was always welcomed to the family dinner table, where they were treated with warmth and respect, as they enjoyed a good home-cooked meal.
