Monongahela
Nora I. (Noel) Villella, 100, of Monongahela passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Mon Valley Care Center, which has helped with her care since 2023. Born on April 16, 1924, in Lock Four (North Charleroi), Nora was the daughter of the late Joseph and Irene (Dindal) Noel and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Nora was a 1942 graduate of Charleroi High School and Douglas Business College of Charleroi. For several years, she was employed as an operator at the Bell Telephone Company in Charleroi. Nora was also a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served during World War II as a secretary to the Chaplain, at Saufley Field, in Pensacola, FL.
For 18 years she was chairman of the Memorial Day services on Victory Hill, where she and her husband, the late Joseph Villella resided since 1950. Nora and Joe (retired Chief of Police of Carroll Township) celebrated 46 years of marriage before his death in 1994. Nora continued to reside in her Victory Hill home until she moved in with her family in 2016. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Monongahela Valley Hospital with 39 years of active service, the American Legion Post #949, Dunkirk, the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates and Waves, MWA National and 3 Rivers Unit #28, Pittsburgh, New Eagle AARP, and past President of Victory Hill Ladies Auxiliary. As a high school student, Nora received a commendation from the Governor for selling war bonds during World War II. She had a love of bowling, traveling, shopping, reading, and spending time with her loved ones. Nora never said no to a fun day out.
Nora is survived by her loving family, daughter and son-in-law, Janet and George Ulakovich; grandchildren Michael Ulakovich, and Lesa and husband, Sean Trunzo; and her only great-grandchild, Noelle, who was the light of her life. Nora also cherished her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband, Joe, Nora, is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-laws, Thomas (Margaret) Noel, James (Lillian) Noel, and her sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Paul) Falorio.
Nora will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of service, kindness, love of God, and fun spirit will live on in all of us.
Thank you to all the members of the Mon Valley Care Center, Amedysis nursing staff, and the Via Quest Hospice who provided care and compassion during the last year. Also, to Dr. John Holets who has been her physician for as long as her family can remember.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 31, 2024 from 5-8 PM in the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Mark Woomer officiating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
