Obituary

Posie Derfler, formerly of Erie was summoned by the Lord on June 18, 2023. Born Rosemary Gray on July 16, 1927 to Elizabeth and William Gray in Monongahela, PA, she was nicknamed Posie by a hometown lady after the flower.

Posie was raised in Monongahela and was a graduate of the Monongahela High School class of 1945. The Flame yearbook describes her as "the movie kid . . . stubborn . . . has a hearty laugh . . . smooth dancer . . . keeping scrapbooks . . . a different outfit every day . . . shows good sense."  Posie was also a graduate of the 1949 class of Ohio University with a degree in psychology. Posie and her husband, Jim Derfler, were married in 1951 and had five children. Posie will be fondly remembered for her love of family and friends; her devotion to God, church and fellow parishioners; her gentleness and kindness, love of life and sense of humor; and the many dogs she raised, loved and cared for over her life. Many of her family's friends often characterized Posie as one of the nicest persons they ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Posie is pre-deceased by her parents and husband, her daughters Kathy and Peggy, and her brother Bill Gray Jr.

Posie is survived by her daughter, Arline of Mansfield, TX; her sons, Jim Jr. (Janie) of San Diego and Tom (Leticia) of Weaverville, CA; her sister, Ginny Miller of Horseheads, NY; her grandsons, Doug Provensano of Tucson, and Gavin and Grayson Ramon of Mansfield, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the Frye Funeral Home Inc. located at 427 W. Main St. in Monongahela at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lavender Hills Assisted Living for their tender loving care during Posie's residency there.
