After battling dementia for three years, Mr. Raymond Anthony Cevera, of Ellicott City, MD, peacefully passed away at the age of 83 years on September 21, 2022.

Raymond was born on October 30, 1938, in Princeton, New Jersey. He was the oldest son of Anthony Cevera and Mae (Grew) Cevera. Growing up in Princeton, Ray attended St. Paul's Catholic School and Princeton High School graduating in 1956. He then attended Ryder College and graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 1960. Following graduation from college, he enlisted in the National Guard and did basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was commended as a Rifle M1 Marksman, Sharpshooter, and Tank Driver.

In 1962, he wed Eileen Lally of New Brunswick, New Jersey. They were married to for 15 years, and had five children in Kendall Park, NJ. In 1981, Raymond married Jennie C. Hunter of Monessen, PA and moved to El Cerrito, California, where they had two children. In 2000, the family moved to Ellicott City, Maryland.

Ray was employed by four major corporations over the span of his career: American Cyanamid, Hess Oil Company, E. R. Squibb, and Sons (Bristol Myer-Squibb) and Chevron Corporation. His special understanding of budgets, finance, and auditing provided h im the skills to succeed and be promoted at each company over the span of 30 years before retiring at the age of 55.

One of Ray's true passions was sports. Ray was an outstanding basketball player in high school, and later played basketball and softball for the companies he worked for over the years. In 1965, as captain of the American Cyanamid Basketball Team, he led his team to win the divisional title of the YMCA Research and Industrial League. He enjoyed following WVU Mountaineer's football and basketball. Ray was avid fan of the San Francisco Forty-niners and later the Baltimore Ravens.

Mentoring young children to have confidence was important to Ray. He was an Indian Scout Guide in the mid70's. He also coached Little League Baseball, girls' softball, both girl's and boys' basketball, and soccer during the seventies through the early nineties.
Ray was an avid landscaper and gardener. Neighbors often sought his advice and talent regarding plants and grasses to plant. Other interests that Ray followed were national economics, the stock market, and the political scene in Washington, D.C. Ray was well known for his humor with often outspoken, but funny comments. He was equally well known to be a very stylish dresser and a most loving husband and father. Ray loved to travel internationally and did, over the years, to 15 different countries as well as many tropical islands.

He is predeceased by his parents, and his younger brother, Nicolas Cevera. He is survived by his wife Jennie C. Hunter-Cevera, of 41 years, his sisters Jackie Leighton and Carol Gilbert, and brother, Michael Cevera; his seven children: Lisa Everson, Scott Cevera and his wife Cathy, Noelle Raciti, Marc Cevera, Stacy Sartoris and her husband Tony, Kristen Hunter Cevera and her husband, Dehann Fourie, and Jon Hunter-Cevera; his eight grandchildren: Zachary Everson, Molly Everson, Shannon Raciti, Olivia Raciti, Scott Cevera Jr. Nicholas Cevera, Emma Cevera and Sophia Cevera, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

It was Ray's wish that, instead of a funeral service or memorial service, that his family and close friends have a great dinner and enjoy themselves in his honor.

Donations in Raymond Cevera's memory can be made to the four following charities:
St. Labre School for Indian Children, St. Joseph's School of Indian Children, St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children, and the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
