Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Theresa Mae Fisher, age 82, on January 31, 2026. Theresa was born on June 16, 1943 in Greensburg, PA, the daughter of David C Fisher and Ellen M Fisher (née: Brady).

A graduate of the Robert Morris School of Business in Pittsburgh, PA, Theresa was notably employed by the National Academy of Sciences from 1977 until her retirement. During her 32 years with the NRC she held in the executive, editorial, and proposal-contracts offices of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). She also held positions with several NAE and NRC boards, including the Energy Engineering Board, the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board, the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, and the Marine Board.

A lover of animals—particularly cats and owls— and nature, Theresa was a compassionate individual who taught kindness and understanding through her actions. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and cared deeply for others. A big fan of Elvis and Rosemary Clooney, Theresa also loved music and to sing with her beautiful voice.

She is survived by her sister, MaryEllen Landon and her husband Jerry Forderhase of New York, NY; her brother, Jonathan D Fisher of Castle Shannon, PA; her niece, Brady M Landon-Forderhase of New York, NY; her sister-in-law, Barbara A Fisher (née: Grau); her nephew, Kirk P Fisher and his wife Sondra; her niece, Kirsten L Fisher-Price and her husband Allen; cousins from Monongahela: Susan, Janet, Linda, and J.D., and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Peter R Fisher, and cousins, Sally and Tom.
