Walter Francis "Yogi" Wise, 72, of Monessen, formerly of Webster, died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born May 10, 1946 in Charleroi, the son of the late Walter and Nellie Rook Wise.
Walter was a graduate of Rostraver High School and a Vietnam veteran having served in the US Army. He was a retired Sergeant from the Rostraver Police Department with over fifteen years of employment. After he retired, he was a salesman at the Matway Car Dealership in Rostraver. He loved listening to albums from the 50's and 60's and even did some DJing on the side in the Mon Valley area. His whole life was centered around his grandchildren. He loved watching them since they were infants and spent as much time with them while they were growing up. He especially enjoyed his friendly political debates with his grandson, Andrew. Walt was an animal lover and also enjoyed the Pirates and Steelers.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Taylor Wise with whom he celebrated ten years of marriage on July 8, 2018; two daughters, Sharon "Michele" Eckert and husband George of Monongahela, Erica Herman and husband Jeff of Carroll Township; stepdaughter, Luella Lint and stepson, Michael Lint, both of Belle Vernon; three grandchildren, Jared and Ashley Harbaugh, Andrew Amati; step grandson, Connor Robertson; sister, Sharon Kuchera and husband Danny and a brother, William Wise and wife Karen, all of Monessen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cheryl Updike Wise who died March 4, 1997; and a sister, Shirley Sergi.
Friends will be received on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Nikki Mazza Fredley officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Fells Cemetery, Rostraver with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
