William J.
Staffen, Jr.
Mar 11, 1951 — Jul 2, 2025
Monongahela
William Joseph Staffen, 74, of Monongahela went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Allegheny General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on March 11, 1951 in Pittsburgh, the son of William and Jane Rogers Staffen.
Bill lived most of his life in Library and Monongahela. He retired from USS Clairton Works where he worked on the blast furnace until it closed and later on the batteries as a pusher machine operator.
Bill found great enjoyment in motorcycles, hunting, fishing and vacations in the Smoky Mountains over the years, but more than those pleasures, he loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was forever grateful for his salvation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monongahela and a past member of the former Carpenter's Cross Church in Webster. One of his deepest disappointments during his illness was his inability to regularly attend church services. During that time, he was grateful for the care shown by the pastors of those two churches. Both Pastor Ken Kirby of the First Baptist Church of Monongahela and Pastor Henry Frain of the former Carpenter's Cross Church visited him, anointed him with oil, prayed for him, and continually offered support. Their love made a difference to him and to his family. In addition to loving the Lord, Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Crompton Staffen; sons, William and Thomas Staffen; grandchildren, Joshua, Sara, and Makenna Staffen; brother, Richard Staffen; sister, Donna Staffen Wilcher; uncle and aunt, Fran and Jo Staffen; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Betty Jane, Uncle Gene and Aunt Gaye Staffen Nagy, Uncle June and Aunt Pat Staffen Prentice, Uncle Tom and Aunt Jo Bucchianeri Rogers, and Uncles, Joseph and Robert Rogers.
Bill was so proud of the men his sons had become, enjoying every moment he spent with them; and his grandchildren were the delight of his heart, always putting a smile on his face. His brother and sister remained important to him, and he valued the times he was able to be part of family gatherings.
Bill loved all of his family, often telling stories of his exploits with his cousins, Beebs, Joe and Gene, and remembering his aunts and uncles who have passed away with fondness. He was so grateful that his Uncle Fran and Aunt Jo are still with us.
Friends will be received Monday, July 7, 2025 from 2-7 PM in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 W Main Street, Monongahela, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM with the Pastor Ken Kirby officiating. Interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery, Finleyville.
